4 Reasons YOU Should Take Theatre in High School

Throughout high school, many students choose to explore new hobbies and programs that they have never imagined trying before. If you are looking for an exciting, always-changing, creativity-inspiring class, you should try Theatre!

Taking high school theatre has so many more benefits than just learning how to perform in shows. You can learn so many different life skills, meet so many new friends, and best of all- let loose and be yourself in class! There are so many more reasons to join a high school theatre class than just these, so let me tell you about some of my favorite reasons.

Taking a Theatre Class can help improve self-esteem and confidence levels.

  1. It will increase your self-esteem and confidence.

In theatre class, you can find out who you are, and just be yourself around everyone. One thing I’ve learned in class is that no one judges you, and getting to know yourself is one of the best things you can do. Once you know who you are, you can become a much better actor.

2) You will get to learn about other cultures and history in a fun way!

If you don’t like history class- don’t let this reason scare you away. In this class, you get to learn about other cultures through music, acting, and several other formats. For example, have you heard of Hamilton the Musical? Who knew learning about one of America’s Founding Fathers could be so exciting?

3) You’ll never be wrong.

This may seem like an extreme statement, but when you are learning to be creative and step out of your comfort zone, nothing is wrong! You are experimenting with different scenes and settings and nothing is off-limits.

4) You will get to play games!

While in theatre class, you will most likely learn a thing or two about improv. Through learning about improv, you will also get to play several games to improve your skills and bond with group members. Theatre classes are all about teaching students how to be better actors while also allowing them to have lots of fun.

Several high schools decide to focus on Improv games in class.

Besides these four reasons, there are SO many more to think about. The only way to know if you’re a good fit for a theatre program at your school is to try it out! Theatre could end up being the highlight of your high school career!
